The Writing Program sponsors a $500 Best Essay Prize and two $250 Distinguished Essay Prizes in conjunction with Dialogues@RU: A Journal of Undergraduate Research. The winning essays and finalists will be published in Dialogues@RU, Volume Six, Spring 2007.

Submissions must have been written for 201: Research in the Disciplines or 301: College Writing and Research between Fall, 2005, and Fall, 2006. They should be between 8 and 12 pages in length, demonstrate a significant research effort, and use a minimum of 6 sources including scholarly books, articles, and web sources documented in MLA citation style.

The deadline for submissions is January 25, 2008, but we will be receiving submissions from May 10, 2007, so that you can prepare and submit your essays from Spring courses while your work is fresh in your mind.

Please submit the following to The Writing Program Office, 108 Murray Hall, College Avenue Campus, or 104 Lucy Stone Hall B, Livingston Campus:

•  A title page including your name; the course, semester, and instructor for which the paper was written; your college, major, and year of graduation; and your phone, email, and campus address.

•  Two copies of the essay, with NO identification used on the pages of the essay.

•  A statement granting permission to publish the essay.

The Writing Program will make final decisions by April 20, 2008, and reserves the right to determine which essays will be included in Dialogues@RU.
